Its unique stratigraphy is divided into several complexes, such as the Musengezi, Darwendale, Sebakwe, and Wedza complexes, each hosting different mineralogies and ore bodies. These complexes are further characterized by layered igneous sequences, which are pivotal for the localization of sulfide ores containing PGMs and base metals.


Zimbabwe's Greenstone Belts: The Gold Havens

Surrounding the Great Dyke are the greenstone belts, ancient and highly metamorphosed rocks that are renowned for their gold deposits. These belts, including the famous Shamva, Bindura, and Masvingo belts, are remnants of Archean oceanic crust that have been preserved within the Zimbabwe Craton. The greenstone belts are primarily composed of volcanic and sedimentary rocks, interspersed with intrusions of granite and pegmatite.

Gold mineralization within these belts is often associated with quartz veins and shear zones, where hydrothermal fluids have altered the host rocks. The geological processes involved in the formation of these gold deposits include metamorphism, fluid migration, and the remobilization of gold into concentrated ore bodies.
